Stuff, and nonsense...

I told my sister-in-law the other week that I wouldn't be one of those bloggers who chronicles their daily meals, but breakfast this morning was rather nice. Yesterday, I spotted a blackbird with a great big red berry in his beak, and realised he'd nabbed one of the raspberries before we'd had a chance to taste them - a variation on William Morris's Strawberry Thief, with added swearing.

Only a few strawberries, and even fewer raspberries, are ready - but enough to let me sprinkle the strawberriest of strawberries and one perfect raspberry on my porridge... so I'm afraid it's war now, between me and the birdies, as to who gets to them first!

Then off to the auction house for 'viewing', as they have a couple of plan chests which I'd quite like to get my hands on. Still dithering about how much I'm willing/able to pay! I like going to auctions, and this one is great, with some lovely chaps running it. I wish they hadn't had to move premises, as it was more fun when it was in Clare. Then you could wander off and have some tea somewhere, or look in shop windows, and scurry back when your lot was due to come up. Unfortunately, now it's on the side of the road, surrounded by fields, with tea from a van that's parked outside on auction day - fine on a sunny day like today, but miserable on a cold, wet one. I guess I could always take a book and run the risk of dozing off on one of the sofas up for auction. "Lot number 367, and please note that the middle-aged woman is not included as part of the sale..."  Zzzzzzz

It's always interesting having a rummage. There's the lovely stuff, that sells for squillions (well, quite a lot), and the stuff that you might imagine finding in Brick Lane or Paddy's Market - a single shoe, or a broken torch, anyone? Well, no - not that bad, but some of it is quite rough! There were a few covetable little bits and pieces today, and then there were the things that are just great fun to look at even if you'd never dream of having them in your own house...
...slightly spooky dolls squishing a little one...
...scary grandmother...
...I like the idea of having my very own postbox...
...C really hates all things wicker... so this is for him.... x
